Messi goes emotional on Alba's retirement, already 'looking' for new partner

Shortly after Jordi Alba, 36, announced his retirement from football, Lionel Messi penned a heartfelt tribute to his longtime teammate and friend. The announcement came as a surprise, as Alba had only renewed his contract with Inter Miami until June 2037 in May.

Messi, who shared countless victories, memories, and emotional moments with Alba at both FC Barcelona and Inter Miami, expressed his affection and nostalgia in a touching Instagram post.

“Thanks to you, Jordi. I’m going to miss you a lot. After so many things together, it’s going to be strange for me to look to the left and not see you there
How crazy the amount of assists you gave me all these years
Who is going to give me the passes now???” wrote the Argentine legend.

Sergio Busquets Also Pays Tribute

Sergio Busquets, another of Alba’s closest friends and former teammates, joined the chorus of tributes. Having also announced his own retirement days earlier, Busquets shared an emotional message:
“Congratulations Jordi Alba on your great career. It has been a pleasure and a gift to share so many moments, both on and off the pitch. I wish you the best always and, above all, that you continue to share moments with your family. We love you very much, family.”

AndrĂ©s Iniesta’s Heartfelt Farewell

Former Barcelona and Spain teammate AndrĂ©s Iniesta also celebrated Alba’s illustrious career with a warm Instagram post accompanied by photos from their time together.
“Congratulations on your career, brother. Brutal! I had such fun playing on that left side of the field with you. Enjoy these months and I wish you the best for whatever comes next,” Iniesta wrote.

Tributes from Neymar, Thiago, Sergi Roberto, and Bartra

Several other football stars who shared the pitch with Alba also sent their messages of admiration and respect.
Thiago Alcñntara wrote, “Thank you for everything, my brother! You are the best.”
Sergi Roberto affectionately used Alba’s dressing room nickname, writing, “You are very great, folleti.”
Neymar echoed the sentiment, while Marc Bartra added, “What a pride, brother
You’re very, very, very big. LEGEND.”

Marc MĂĄrquez Joins the Tributes

Outside football, MotoGP champion Marc Márquez also acknowledged Alba’s farewell with two raised-hand emojis and two hearts—adding to the flood of affection the defender received from across the sporting world.

A Legacy of Passion and Success

After 18 years as a professional and 22 titles won, Jordi Alba leaves behind a remarkable legacy marked by skill, loyalty, and friendship. His retirement closes a memorable chapter in Spanish football, one defined by excellence on the pitch and deep bonds off it.
